It’s World Kindness Day (so if you can’t be kind, at least don’t be a cockwaffle)

World Kindness Day 2018

wkd

World Kindness Day is celebrated annually, and is a day dedicated to celebrating and promoting kindness in all its forms.

It’s world kindness day today, so please be kind to others (not just today, but always), and if you can’t be kind, at least don’t be a dick.

“Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?” (Author unknown).

I believe the same should apply to online communication too - too many people are so quick to post negative or unkind things from the safety of their smartphones and computers, and it’s often so unnecessary.

I get that there are people in life who are total utter willy-ends who deserve a piece of your mind, but sometimes it’s easier to walk away, stay quiet, rise above it, or simply delete any negative comments. The best bit of advice I was given recently was DON’T FEED THE TROLLS! After all, how people treat you is their karma, how you react is yours.

I was trolled recently and it was unsubstantiated, it was unnecessary, it was unkind and it was personal. I was feeling particularly emotional that day anyway as it was baby loss awareness week and I’d just published an extremely raw, heartfelt article about the baby I lost. It took every ounce of self control not to let this person have it with both barrels, but I’m glad I followed the above advice and simply pressed ‘delete and block’.

We don’t know what people are contending with in their lives - they might look ok on the outside but they could be suffering or struggling with a multitude of things on the inside. One hurtful comment or outburst could tip someone over the edge, and on the flip slide, one small act of kindness can make someone’s day or pull them from the depths of despair.

Kindness is free and it makes the world go round - so let’s sprinkle that shit everywhere!

Happy world kindness day everyone!

Much love, Fran xxx
